Wee Heavy – 8.4%
Now we are in the deep winter months around Burn’s Night, brewing a Scottish classic to warm us up felt like the right thing to do. This is our take on the deep malty, slightly sweet smooth comfort blanket that is the Wee Heavy. Colour wise this is a deep earthy brown and just to give it a good leg up and richness we added a load of dark brown sugar. Low in hop bitterness, but still benefitting from a good helping of East Kent Goldings, this a potent but easy drinking number for the darkest months before the spring.

The Crossing by Big Country – Maybe an obvious choice, but this no-filler classic debut holds special affection for half of Typeset Attack – being the first album they bought in 1983. It’s full of anthemic and evocative songs (In a Big Country, Field of Fire etc.), and sits together a complete album to listen to from beginning to end. It’s worth mentioning that they were renowned for making their guitars sound like,,, errr…. bagpipes. The band had a huge hit with this album in the UK and US. Their follow-ons Steeltown and The Seer had some great moments, but this one still sounds great over 4 decades on.
